Mui Ne, a strip of beach near the town of Phan Thiet, 200 km north of Ho Chi Minh City has earned itself the reputation as one of the most popular beach resort destination's in Vietnam. However its growth over the last 10 years from a sleepy one resort destination to one of multiple resorts with all its attendant facilities has come at a cost. Resorts built along the Mui Ne beach strip are now being challenged by the sea resulting in significant beach erosion that if not checked could ultimately destroy the appeal to tourists of this magnificent strip of Vietnamese coastline. In the developers rush to satisfy the growing demands from both international and vietnamese tourists sustainable development has been ignored for the short term gain. To prevent the erosion of the beach and in many case's their own properties resort owner are using blue plastic sheeting to try to fend off the sea.

The tuna fishing season start's in southern oceans of Australia in the month of November and finishes in the month of February / March when the fishing quotas are full and the tuna continue on their easterly migration. Kiwi White is a tuna spotter, one of a handful that work for the tuna industry that operate's out of Port Lincoln in South Australia. Kiwi will spend most of his 3 months or so spotting tuna based in Ceduna, where the Cessna 337 planes fly out of for the 200 kilometre out to sea, 8 hours days they spend in the air.

  • Ladies collecting water in the flat complex of Santhome. Santhome Beach and adjoining Marina Beach in Chennai, India were hit hard by the 2004 Tsunami. Fishermen and their families were the main victims living in their lightweight huts on the long and flat beaches of the area. All structures within 300 metres of the sea have now been banned and any left standing after the Tsunami were demolished. The fishermen and their families have now been relocated to government blocks of flats which has become a Santhome slum for fishermen and their families.

  • Wynn casino greeters at the ZuHai border crossing. Gambling is Macau's biggest industry and busloads arrive daily from the mainland China to try their luck. In addition many Hong Kongers arrive on weekends with the same aim. Most casino's are along the waterfront on the southern side of the Macau peninsula. However many new casino's are now being developed on the reclaimed land area called the Cotai Strip. There are ATM machines available at either casino as well as forex facilities to change your money. Gamblers are required to be at least 18 years of age to be allowed to play. Interestingly, local civil servants are not allowed to enter the casinos with the exception of the first three days of the Chinese new year.
